Obituary of Marie Ann Larson

Marie Ann Buckland Muser Larson, 88, passed away peacefully on February 24, at Avera St. Benedict Hospital in Parkston, SD.
Marie was born on October 17, 1929, at Bryant South Dakota, to Mabel (Jefferson) and Charles David Buckland, one of 15 children. She graduated from Bryant High School and married LeRoy “Tack” Muser on June 26, 1948. They farmed south of Erwin until Tack’s death in 1973. To this union was born five children, Darrel, Carol, Janel, Joan and Mayo Ross.

Marie moved to Lake Preston, SD in 1975. She was a member of the Erwin American Legion Auxiliary. While living in Lake Preston, she worked at the hospital. She met Verne Larson and they married on March 28, 1981. They lived south of Lake Preston for a year, then moved to Yankton, SD where they managed an apartment complex while Verne worked at the Port of Entry. Upon retiring, they moved to Rapid City in 1990. While living in Rapid City, Marie was a companion/care giver to an elderly woman who lived to be 112 years old, helping her with daily tasks and reading books. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, the card game, Scat, making lefse and other crafts.  In January of 2016, they moved to Avera St. Benedict Assisted Living in Parkston.

Marie is survived by her husband of 36 years; her children, Darrel (Ann) Muser of Erwin; Carol Muser of Rapid City; Janel (Doug) Brown of Rapid City; Joan (Larry) Marso of Marion; step children, Deb (Curt) Yess of Waseca, MN; Pam (Al) Larson of Sun Lakes, Arizona; Jill (Drew) Sumner of Jarrell, TX; and Marsha Larson of Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren 29 great-grandchildren, 12 step-great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; five sisters, Delores Bill and Betty Brodahl of California; Joan (Duane) Hoffman of Huron; Virginia (Merle) Neu of DeSmet; and Tonetta Lunde of Port Washington, WI.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Tack in 1973 and her son Mayo Ross in 2016, her parents, and 10 siblings.

Koehn Funeral Home in Parkston will handle her cremation. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Lake Preston Lutheran Church in Lake Preston, SD.
