Since I won't be able to be there with the family I thought I'd give some of my early memories of Alona. When I was 3 Alona introduced me to religion by taking me to a little church in LA called the Back to God Chapel. She would take me there for Sunday school. Actually, she went there to play with some of her classmates. There was always a football game going on outside and the 2 guys I remember are Dick and Jack Mead playing there. She made me stay inside because she said I was too small to play with the big kids. Even though Jack Mead was only 1 year older than me. I colored a lot of Jesus pictures for Mom.
As adults when we'd talk on the phone, I'd tell her about the Packers, Brewers or Bucks game I was going to watch that day and she tell me she didn't have any interest in that. But it was Alona who made me play softball with her in Elk Point and she showed me how to swing a bat. When I got into organized ball and the coaches told me I wasn't batting correctly, I told them my sister taught me how to bat. The thing I couldn't get rid of for baseball was a hitch in my swing. But I credit Alona for making me love sports.
Alona baby sat for me as baby when she was 5 and mom had to help dad in the field.
